The inaugural formative meeting of the Cephalopod International Advisory Council took place in Plymouth, UK on the 11th of June, 1981 as part of an international workshop on the Identification of Cephalopod Beaks. Herein, “the charter members of the new organization convened a committee to develop the structure of CIAC” (Hochberg & Hatfield, 2002).
